Arizona Celebration of Freedom in Mesa

CELEBRATE INDENDENCE DAY ALL WEEKEND IN DOWNTOWN MESA!!

Help us “blow the roof off of downtown Mesa” during the two-day celebration of America’s freedom and independence at the inaugural Southwest Ambulance Arizona Celebration of Freedom presented by the Chicago Cubs, KOOL-FM and the Downtown Mesa Association.  The free event will be held Friday, July 2 and Saturday, July 3 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. along Main Street in downtown Mesa.  This spectacular celebration will include motorcycles, classic cars, music, art, games, patriotic displays, fireworks and more.

 ATTRACTIONS

  • “Motorcycles on Main” will kick off the event Friday night with a ride from Chester’s Harley-Davidson, 922 S. Country Club Drive, to the main stage of Southwest Ambulance Arizona Celebration of Freedom, Main Street and Center Street.
  • American Iron Car Show on Saturday night is open to all American-made cars, 1972 and older.  No fees.  Prizes will be awarded!
  • Honor Walk and Fallen Soldiers Memorial at Mesa Arts Center.  The memorial honors Arizona soldiers killed in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
  •  Heritage Lane features inflatable replicas of the Capitol, White House, Supreme Court, Washington Monument and Independence Hall.  You will have a chance to sign replicas of the Declaration of Independence and U.S. Constitution. 
  • Family Fun Zone includes watermelon eating contest, face painting and obstacle course.
  • Wet Zone features Slip ‘N Slide, a dunk tank, and other games bound to get kids soaked!
  • “KOOL Zones” sponsored by KOOL-FM with misting tents and Big Fogg misting fans to help you beat the heat!
  • Patriotic programs at Mesa Arts Center will include a Missing Man Ceremony held several times each night.
  • Main Street will feature arts and crafts booths and displays, community organization displays, entertainment, food booths and beer gardens.  Many of the shops and restaurants will also be open for everyone’s enjoyment.
  • Chicago Cubs “Salute to America” program Saturday night at 9 p.m. followed by Fireworks Extravaganza at 9:30 p.m.  Pyrotechnics will be shot from the top of Mesa City Plaza and Mesa Arts Center.  The main fireworks show will erupt just south of downtown.  The best areas to view fireworks will be on the north side of Main Street and at the intersections of Macdonald and Center Street.

PARKING

  • Because of high attendance, plan to arrive early and leave late for the best parking.  There are several parking garages and surface lots available in downtown Mesa.  There are surface lots at 55 N. Center St., Main Library (64 E. 1st St.), Arizona Museum for Youth (35 N. Robson), Mesa Convention Center (263 N. Center St.), the south side of Pepper Place between Robson and Center and north of 1st Avenue between Robson and Center.  There are parking garages available on Pepper Place between Macdonald and Center and north of Mesa Municipal Court (250 E. 1st Ave.)
  • Main Street will be closed between Robson and Centennial Way from 10 p.m. Thursday, July 1 to 8 a.m. Sunday, July 4.  Macdonald and Center Street will be closed between Pepper Place and First Avenue during the same hours.
