Francesca’s Collections
Hey it’s Tourism Terrie and I’m back. Last night after work I was meeting friends for dinner near Dana Park Village just off Val Vista and the 60. I had some time to kill before dinner so I did some looking around in some of the Dana Park Stores. Most of them I had been in many times but I discovered a little boutique that I fell in love with. It is called Francesca’s Collections, and let me just say what a collection. It is an eclectic array of jewelry, purses and clothing, every girls dream. The sales staff is friendly and helpful but not pushy. They welcome you as you come in the door, tell you about any specials going on and away you go. I love this kind of shop, you can tell the owner really loves what she is doing by the way everything is arranged and displayed. I found it delightful and plan to go back when I don’t have people waiting for me and in a hurry to eat!
Whether you’re looking for a gift for yourself or someone else you most certainly will be able to find it in Francesca’s. www.FrancescasCollections.com

GoGo Ginger here again!!
Sorry it’s been a while, but I was actually out exploring the desert….braving the heat!!
I spent 2 hours at Mesa’s Usery Mountain Regional Park last Friday morning getting to know “the lay of the land”. Usery Park just opened its brand new Nature Center last month and there is more to this building than meets the eye! The nature center is just before the pay station, so visitors can utilize the facilities at no charge!
Ranger Jennifer gave me a complete tour of the BRAND NEW Nature Center and drove me around the park to get acquainted with all the offering and amenities. I took pages of notes, but here are a few of the highlights about the NEW Nature Center…
Retail store offers snacks and cold beverages, souvenirs and outdoor necessities like sunscreen, hats and water bottles available for purchase; Cactus garden & boulders are all relocated from original site (prior to construction); Garden rooftop; 12 Solar panels for sustainable energy; Restrooms utilize waterless urinals and low flow toilets and an outdoor amphitheater (that will seat at least 100ppl)

General Park amenities: 4,000 acres, 4 playgrounds w/canopies, 75 campsites with hookups, Ramada sites to be reserved, Merkle Trail – Barrier Free (wheelchair/stroller accessible, via “paved” path), Vista Trail – has a sundial located at top of trail, great trail for toddlers and Equestrian Staging area and trails available, There are many monthly ranger lead programs to choose from, complimentary with regular park admission.
Now Ranger Jennifer & Ranger B are working on getting me out on the Merkle Trail, to get me away from this computer (
So plan a visit with Ranger Jennifer or Ranger B soon…..Free guided tours the New Nature Center now available in Mesa! August dates include the 19th and 27th. The official public Grand Opening ceremony and festivities are scheduled for Saturday, September 26th, so plan on visiting in August to beat the rush!

GoGo Ginger here again!
So, I stopped in last week to try the Pillsbury Wine Co.’s vinos at the Cellar Pub at Sun Devil Liquors.
Although I am a white wine drinker, the other tasters fell in love with the 2006 & 2007 vintages that were featured. (I even overheard an order for 2 cases)
I had fun talking with a few of the regulars, my bartender Kat and the owners. They were extremely friendly and eager to share tips with me, I took lots of notes.

It’s Party Time!
There is nothing finer than combining some power sidewalk shopping with a little entertainment – and this Saturday you can do both at the “Party at the Park” at Dana Park in Mesa. This tony neighborhood shopping district just south of the US 60 on Val Vista will be the place to be from 3 to 9 p.m. featuring live music and activities for kids (obnoxious balloon animals and face painting anyone?). Parents will want to take advantage of the free fingerprinting and ID service for little ones and Mesa’s Fire Department and Police Department will be strutting their stuff and showing off the red and blue lights as well. There are oodles of dining opportunities – a personal fave is Sauce – and the evening will culminate with fireworks! All good stuff for a Saturday night in May in Mesa. Hope to see you there!

Cool off at Dana Park

Feeling blissful? Head to Vintage Market May 16
If you are searching for unique boutiques and one-of-a-kind fashions, look no further than Main Street in Mesa. Few can resist the charm and character exclusive to this area. Tourists are especially drawn here for the one-of-a-kind offerings that can only be found in Downtown Mesa retailers. Featuring a collection of vintage and modern-day housewares and specialty items, Domestic Bliss is always a favorite among shoppers. This month, Domestic Bliss is providing their shoppers “blissful events” and a chance to score some one-of-a-kind vintage attire.
Gather your girls and play dress up at the Bohemian Bliss Soiree on Friday, May 15 from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. Bohemian light fare and libations will be served as guests enjoy a preview party, tour and shopping at the Alber’s, Domestic Bliss’ owners, home at 767 North Robson. Tickets are $30, but if you get in the spirit and dress in “fancy schmancy bohemian attire” your ticket is half off.
You won’t want to miss the Vagabond Vintage Market on Saturday featuring fabulous vintage finds. The Alber’s will also be conducting home tours for $5 from 10 a.m. until noon, which will feature the 1920s bungalow they just finished restoring. Vintage art, clothing, antiques, jewelry, gifts and more will be featured at this not-to-miss market. The market is from 7 a.m. until noon on Saturday, May 16 and is open to the public.
Some of the vendors that will be featured at the event include Mesa’s own Adorn Style Lounge, Vintage Bliss and Whippy Cake. Visit the event blog to see the full list of vendors that will be at the events.
Terrie from the Mesa CVB became a quick fan after visiting the store last Friday.
