As I told you earlier….I LOVE the boys of Summer (especially since I get to see more of them during spring training)
Here is a clip of me leading a group of Mesa C.V.B. partners and special Chicago guests at the Chicago Cubs Spring Training opening game at Hohokam Stadium in Mesa, Az on Thursday, March 4.

FYI – they played the Oakland A’s and WON 9-3!!

Ok – I know that patience is a virtue but all the winter rains we had in Mesa this year have made me as anxious as a school girl to go hiking and frolic among the wildflowers (truly!). This entire week we’ve had temps in the high-70s and I return home every night to a house with an internal temp of 80 so that must mean that spring is coming…quickly!

So, I checked the Arizona State Parks Ranger Cam and the official word on the street is “No Flowers Yet”. But trust me…they are coming! So, I wanted to share this website with anyone waiting (like me) so they, too, can check online and get updates on what flowers are blooming and where. It’s a great resource (one that I hope doesn’t go away like park access is going to…!) and they cover parks all across the state of Arizona. You can see images directly from the trails and plan accordingly. So, if you are like me and love fields of yellow, red, blue and purple – start your daily checks now because it is going to be one wild wildflower season. Grand Opening this Friday ~ Cucina Di Vita, Downtown Mesa

Mesa Mayor Scott Smith, Vice Mayor Kyle Jones along with Chamber of Commerce President/CEO Charlie Deaton and Downtown Mesa Association Chair Freddy Curry are scheduled to participate in a ribbon cutting at Cucina di Vita on Friday, February 19, 2010 at 4pm. The ribbon cutting will part of a Grand Opening celebration to include sample menu items, prizes, live music, etc. The public is welcome.

Cucina di Vita is a deli specializing in paninis, pizzas, sandwiches, soups and salads and is located at 142 West Main Street, Mesa, AZ 85201. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 7am to 7pm and Saturdays from 8am to 4pm. For catering or take out call 480 – 834 – 3898. Recently I boarded a bus with local tourism professionals and we did a whirlwind tour or Mesa. One of our stops included the C.A.F. Museum that I hadn’t been to in about 3 years. So it was great to get out and see new planes in the hangar. While the wing boasts the B-17G aircraft, Sentimental Journey at their crown jewel, there are many others to look as well as the gift shop.

What did I learn?? I learned the secret to the picture of Betty Grabel on the side of the plane. Everyone assumes that the over the shoulder glance was just to be seductive, but our docent told us about the politics of being a superstar, she was actually pregnant when the original photo was taken.

Santa will be flying in to wish all the boys and girls a merry Christmas this year.

I have attended this event before and it’s a blast!! There are so many participants that dress in period costume, it is like a walk down memory lane for some.

Ok, so I know that we focus on Mesa and the East Valley, but one of my favorite times of years just started last weekend…. The Arizona State Fair!!

Why?? You name it, but my faves include indian tacos, fresh corn dogs, cotton candy and FREE CONCERTS!!!

The highlight for me at the fair this year is that they are helping me save money. You can purchase a season pass for $21, which if you got at least 2 times it’s paid for itself. Just pay for your regular admission to the fair and then go to customer service to have it applied to the season pass price, they also give you a coupon book that includes a play one-get one free on the midway as well as food and drink discounts. Don’t forget about unlimited ride wristband days, a new “happy hour” discount of $1 on Fridays from Noon-6pm.
